School Uniform
At Exwick Heights, we want every child to feel that they belong. Our school uniform helps create a sense of community, pride and identity, whilst ensuring children are ready for a busy day of learning, play and discovery.
We know that families want uniform to be practical, comfortable and affordable, and our approach reflects this. We follow the Department for Education's guidance on school uniform, which encourages schools to keep costs reasonable, limit compulsory branded items and provide good value for families. As part of this commitment, only a small number of items need to carry the school logo, and we are pleased to offer access to pre-loved uniform through our PTFA.
Our aim is to ensure that all children feel proud to be part of the Exwick Heights community and are able to come to school feeling comfortable, confident and ready to learn.
Clothing
Children should wear:
- Dark grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore dress
- Green and white gingham dress or playsuit during warmer weather (playsuits should only be worn if children can manage them independently).
- White polo shirt (with or without the school logo).
- Green school jumper or cardigan (with logo)
- White, grey or black socks.
Nursery and Pre-school
Uniform is not compulsory for children in Nursery and Pre-school. If families choose for their child to wear school uniform, we recommend leggings, joggers that children can manage independently. This helps to develop confidence with dressing and toileting and supports children to be more independent throughout the day.
As our youngest children enjoy lots of active, creative and outdoor learning, we also encourage families to send them in clothes that are suitable for getting messy and exploring.
Purchasing Uniform
School cardigans, sweatshirts and polo shirts with the Exwick Heights logo are available from:
Footwear
Children need footwear that is comfortable, safe and suitable for active school days.
We ask that children wear:
- Smart black school shoes; or
- Smart, all-black trainers; or
- Smart black boots suitable for school wear.
We prefer children to wear shoes rather than sandals. However, during warmer weather, children may wear black or white sandals. Wherever possible, these should have closed toes, as they offer greater protection when children are running, playing and learning outdoors.
We kindly ask that children do not wear:
- Trainers with coloured logos, trims, edging or soles.
- Crocs, jelly shoes or similar footwear.
- Welly boots as everyday school footwear.
Outdoor Clothing and Weather Protection
At Exwick Heights, learning often takes place beyond the classroom, whatever the weather. Please help your child to come prepared by ensuring they have:
- A warm, waterproof coat during autumn and winter.
- A lightweight waterproof coat during spring and summer.
- A warm hat, gloves and scarf during colder weather.
- A sunhat during warmer weather.
During sunny weather, please apply sun cream before your child comes to school. Children are welcome to bring sun cream to school to reapply independently at lunchtime. Children are welcome to wear sunglasses if needed.
PE Kit
Staff will let families know when PE kits are needed.
Children will need:
- Black shorts.
- A plain round-neck T-shirt in their team colour:
- Earth - Green
- Fire - Red
- Air - Yellow
- Water - Blue
- Trainers.
- A tracksuit, sweatshirt or jogging bottoms (any colour) for cooler weather.
We will let you know your child's team colour at the start of the autumn term.
Book Bags
Children bring home reading books and a library book each week. To help keep books safe and in good condition, we ask that they are carried in a book bag or similar bag.
School book bags can be purchased through MCAS.
Accessories
- Jewellery should not be worn in school, with the exception of one small stud earring in each ear.
- Long hair (shoulder length or below) should be tied back.
- Large hair accessories should be avoided.
- Hair dye, shaved hair designs, nail varnish and temporary tattoos should be saved for weekends and school holidays.
Lost Property
We know that from time to time belongings can be misplaced. We encourage families to clearly name all clothing, water bottles, lunch boxes and bags, as this makes it much easier for lost items to be returned.
If something is lost, we will always do our best to reunite it with its owner. Unclaimed items will be stored and made available for children and families to check.
Pre-Loved Uniform
We are proud to offer a selection of pre-loved uniform through our PTFA. This is a fantastic way to save money, reduce waste and support sustainability.
