As a school, we are proud to balance our commitment to academic excellence with our ambition for every child to be kind in their actions, curious about the world around them and determined to make a positive difference. Sitting at the top of Exwick Hill, we are surrounded by examples of local kindness that make our corner of the world such a special place to be such as the community larder and library to our toy shed. Inspired by this spirit, we have been reflecting on how we can empower children to recognise the positive difference they can have on the world around them.

We are delighted to introduce 30 Things (our version of the National Trust’s 50 Things before 11 ¾) – a booklet of community-focused activities designed to support wellbeing and promote civic responsibility. It also celebrates family experiences. 

Every child from Reception to Year 5 will receive their own 30 Things booklet (see below) full of activities. These activities vary slightly between year groups but include wholesome experiences such as feeding the ducks, helping others and exploring the local community.

Participation in 30 things is entirely optional. If your child would like to take part, they can simply complete activities at a pace that suits family life, throughout the summer holidays and next academic year. As activities are completed, feel free to send photos to 30things@exwickheights.devon.sch.uk – we would love to see them! If your child achieves all 30 things, simply complete this form to confirm completion and your child will be invited to a special celebration showcase in July recognising their efforts and hard work. 

Our Year 6 children, will not receive a 30 Things booklet as they will instead have the opportunity to take part in the Torbay and Devon Civic Award next year. This is an award which recognises civic responsibility and celebrates young people for their positive contributions to society.
